Fairmount Prairie Greeting Card IMG_4300

Stiff sunflowers (Helianthus pauciflorus) and Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) tower overhead against a saturated deep blue sky at Fairmount Cemetery Prairie in Davenport, Iowa — photographed from ground level looking up, the tall grasses and yellow flowers filling the entire vertical frame, a worm’s-eye view of a bluff-top remnant prairie in full late-summer abundance. One of the most dramatically composed images in the catalog, and one of the finest surviving examples of a Mississippi River bluff prairie habitat.
