A common green darner dragonfly perches at the Thomson-Fulton Sand Prairie Nature Preserve in Fulton, Illinois — one of the upper Midwest’s most distinctive natural communities, where open sand and native prairie plants create a rare and beautiful habitat. A striking close encounter with one of summer’s most agile fliers.
