The story behind the photograph

A wave of spring wildflowers rolls across the floor of Rochester Cemetery Prairie Oak Savanna in Rochester, Iowa. Blue phlox (Phlox divaricata) carpets the foreground, red wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) and yellow golden alexanders (Zizia aurea) threading through the midground, white wild geranium (Geranium maculatum) and midland shooting star (Dodecatheon meadii) tucked among them, an old oak trunk standing quiet at the edge of the frame. The savanna understory in full, extraordinary spring bloom.

A meaningful gift for a spring wildflower lover, oak savanna enthusiast, Iowa nature admirer, or anyone who has ever crouched down in a cemetery prairie in May and felt overwhelmed by how much life was happening just underfoot.
