The story behind the photograph

A carpet of wild geraniums (Geranium maculatum) sweeps up a sun-drenched hillside at Rochester Cemetery Prairie Oak Savanna in Rochester, Iowa. Lavender-pink flowers cover the ground in vivid spring color while majestic oaks overhead glow with the fresh yellow-green of new leaves against a bright sky. The cemetery prairie in its most welcoming and photogenic season, the understory in full bloom beneath trees that have been standing for generations.

A meaningful gift for a spring wildflower enthusiast, oak savanna lover, Iowa nature admirer, or anyone who has ever walked a cemetery prairie in May and been stopped by the sight of geraniums covering a hillside.
