The story behind the photograph

A small cluster of snow trilliums (Trillium nivale) blooms at ground level amid last year’s brown leaf litter at Lodge Park in Monticello, Illinois. White three-petaled flowers with yellow-green centers push up through the debris of last autumn’s leaves, bare deciduous trees and a vivid blue sky visible behind them. One of the very first wildflowers of the year in the Midwest, photographed from ground level at the moment it announces that winter is over, ready or not.

A meaningful gift for a spring ephemeral enthusiast, woodland wildflower lover, Illinois nature admirer, or anyone who has ever knelt down in March to get their face close to a snow trillium and felt the season shift.

Back of card: Blank, with the Midwest Wilderness Connections logo and the following description along the bottom edge: “Snow trillium (Trillium nivale). Lodge Park, Monticello, Illinois. — Midwest Wilderness Connections www.MidwestWildernessConnections.com”
