The story behind the photograph

A narrow dirt road winds through a lush Mississippi River bluff forest at Green Island Wildlife Management Area in Jackson County, Iowa — the canopy an explosion of vivid early-summer green, a fallen log crossing the left foreground, the road curving into the cool woodland shade ahead. The kind of road that invites you to keep going, deeper into one of the finest floodplain forest and bluff woodland complexes on the Upper Mississippi River.

A meaningful choice for an Iowa nature admirer, woodland trail lover, or Upper Mississippi River Valley enthusiast.
