The story behind the photograph
A gnarled old bur oak stands sentinel over a slope alive with spring wildflowers at Rochester Cemetery Prairie Oak Savanna in Rochester, Iowa. Red wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) and blue phlox (Phlox divaricata) are scattered through lush green growth, wood betony, wild geranium, and golden alexanders filling out the understory as the savanna comes fully awake. One of the most enchanting spring wildflower displays in eastern Iowa.
A meaningful gift for a spring wildflower enthusiast, oak savanna lover, Iowa nature admirer, or anyone who has ever wandered a cemetery prairie in May and found it more alive than they expected.
Back of card: Blank, with the Midwest Wilderness Connections logo and the following description along the bottom edge: “Spring wildflower carpet at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Iowa. — Midwest Wilderness Connections www.MidwestWildernessConnections.com”
