The story behind the photograph

A dense colony of prairie trillium (Trillium recurvatum) fills the woodland floor at Lodge Park in Monticello, Illinois. Deep burgundy blooms nestle among intricately mottled green-and-silver leaves still jeweled with raindrops. One of the Midwest’s most striking spring wildflowers, captured in a lush, layered close-up that rewards every look.

A meaningful gift for a wildflower enthusiast, spring ephemeral lover, Illinois nature admirer, or anyone who has ever knelt down in a forest to really look at a trillium up close.
