The story behind the photograph

An American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) photographed from directly above at Everglades National Park in Florida, its dark, heavily armored body filling the frame as it rests in shallow amber-gold tannin-stained water, every scale and clawed foot visible in sharp detail. A perspective that reveals just how ancient and perfectly engineered this animal is, from a park that has protected the largest population of American alligators in the world.

A meaningful gift for a reptile enthusiast, Everglades admirer, wildlife photography lover, or anyone who has ever walked a boardwalk in south Florida and found an alligator much closer than expected.

Back of card: Blank, with the Midwest Wilderness Connections logo and the following description along the bottom edge: “American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). Everglades National Park, Florida. — Midwest Wilderness Connections www.MidwestWildernessConnections.com”
