The story behind the photograph
Wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) in close-up at Rochester Cemetery Prairie Oak Savanna in Rochester, Iowa. Scarlet-and-yellow spurred blooms nod gracefully on slender stems against a dreamy soft-focus background of green and blue-gray. One of the most elegant and distinctive of all Midwest spring wildflowers, and one of the earliest spring hummingbird favorites, photographed at the moment it is most itself: poised, delicate, and completely in its element.
A meaningful gift for a wildflower enthusiast, hummingbird lover, spring nature admirer, or anyone who has ever spotted wild columbine blooming in a shaded ravine and stopped to look twice.
Back of card: Blank, with the Midwest Wilderness Connections logo and the following description along the bottom edge: “Wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis). Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Iowa. — Midwest Wilderness Connections www.MidwestWildernessConnections.com”
