The story behind the photograph

A Blanding’s turtle (Emys blandingii) peers out cautiously from beneath its domed shell in Carroll County, Illinois. Its bright yellow chin, ancient eyes, and shell worn smooth by decades of wetland life create an intimate portrait of one of Illinois’s most charismatic and imperiled native turtles.

A meaningful gift for a turtle enthusiast, Illinois wildlife lover, herpetology fan, or anyone who appreciates the quiet persistence of a species that has roamed North America for millions of years.

Back of card: Blank, with the Midwest Wilderness Connections logo and the following description along the bottom edge: “Blanding’s Turtle. Carroll County, Illinois. — Midwest Wilderness Connections www.MidwestWildernessConnections.com”
