The eastern gray squirrel is a common occurrence in forests as well as treed backyards and parks. This species plays an important role in the ecosystem by dispersing and burying seeds and nuts in what is called a cache. Because the squirrel doesn't remember where all of its caches are, they're an important factor in forest regeneration.
