MWC Eco-brief: Pileated Woodpecker

MWC Eco-brief: Pileated Woodpecker

The pileated woodpecker is a large, crow sized woodpecker of forests with mature trees and an abundance of standing or fallen dead woody debris. The holes they drill in trees are distinctly rectangular and large. The pileated is more often heard than seen. If you hear it's almost prehistoric call echoing through the forest you won't soon forget it. Learn the calls on the All About Birds website to see if you can find one during your next outing: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pileated_Woodpecker/id#
