MWC Eco-brief: Red Shouldered Hawk

MWC Eco-brief: Red Shouldered Hawk

Due to habitat loss, red-shouldered hawk populations are declining in the Upper Midwest. A breeding pair requires over 250 acres of contiguous mature forest habitat. Protecting existing habitat and restoring large expanses of forest could greatly benefit this species. This particular hawk resides in the Mississippi River floodplain in Iowa, where it's listed as an endangered species.
