MWC Eco-brief: Dragons and damsels

MWC Eco-brief: Dragons and damsels

It's a great time to look for dragonflies & damselflies, collectively called odonates! Each species has a certain flight season when adults peak in abundance. Consequently, the odonate community will change throughout summer and fall. The odonate in this image is a male twelve-spotted skimmer found in the Ayers Sand Prairie Nature Preserve, August 2013. The Iowa Odonata website has great images, maps, and flight season data for those who'd like to learn more: https://iowaodes.org/
