Midwest Wilderness Connections Eco-brief: Ground Nesting Bumblebees

You don't have to roam far and wide to see interesting wildlife. We have a pollinator-safe yard and bare soil areas where our playful dogs have disturbed the grass. The common eastern bumble bees approve, a colony is making an underground nest in one of the bare soil areas. The workers paid no attention to me as I loomed over them, they stayed busy collecting material near the nest and moving it in to furnish their new home.
