MWC Eco-brief: Killdeer

The killdeer is a common plover that roams habitats with no, or very short, vegetation including wetlands, shorelines, farm fields, lawns, and parking lots. The killdeer scrapes out a shallow nest on the ground and lays highly camouflaged eggs directly on the ground. When passers-by approach the nest or young, the killdeer feigns a broken wing and lures the threatening visitor in the opposite direction.
